Review of Geekerella by Ashley Poston

Title: Geekerella

Author: Ashley Poston

Synopsis: When geek girl Elle Whittimer sees a cosplay contest sponsered by the producers of Starfield, she has to enter. First prize is an invitation to the ExelsiCon Cosplay Ball and a meet-and-greet with the actor slated to play Federation Prince Carmindor in the reboot. Elle’s been scraping together tips from her gig at the Magic Pumpkin food truck behind her step-mothers back, and winning this contest could be her ticket out once and for all– not to mention a fangirl’s dream come true. Teen actor Darien Freeman is less than thrilled about this year’s ExelsiCon. He used to live for conventions, but now they’re nothing but jaw-aching photo sessions and awkward meet-and-greets.

Rate: 5/5

My thoughts: When picking this up at Barnes and Noble I did not expect to like it as much as I did. I am usually not a fan of retellings and especially not Cinderella, upon starting Geekerella, I was a little hesitant; once a few chapters in a I couldn’t put it down. Elle the main character’s father died years before the book takes place.  He was the founder of a Con, and Elle hadn’t been able to go since her dad died. During the time since her dad had died, she would occasionally get texts from random people because she inherited his phone which the number was connected to the con’s website, she got a text from someone and they started talking daily. They fell in love via texting and neither knew who each other really was, they met at the Con and everything went from there 🙂
